After menopause, keep the habits that keep you going

Strength sessions, daily walks, the vitamin D you keep forgetting, how your knees felt this morning. Her Good Days keeps them in one place and shows you the week.

The short answer

Postmenopause is everything after the 12-month mark with no period. Some symptoms, such as joint pain and vaginal dryness, can carry on after menopause,[5] and bone is lost faster in the first years after it.[2]

The app turns the cycle tracker off and puts your own priorities first, whether that is sleep, strength or medication.

Two ways the app can look

Strength

Goal: strength

Log menu: Workout, Walk, Medication, Joints and aches, Sleep. A day's plan might read: vitamin D, strength 12 minutes, walk 20 minutes, last night's sleep.

Sleep

Goal: better sleep

Log menu: Sleep, Energy and stress, Journal, Mood, Night sweats. Wind-down reminders at a time you pick, and the 3 AM wake-ups shown across the week.

With no goal set

Barbara, 63, has not picked a goal, so her Log menu follows her stage: Joints and aches first, then Brain fog, Energy and stress, Hot flash and Journal. Everything else is under More.

Why strength comes up so often

ACOG says women lose bone more rapidly in the first 4 to 8 years after menopause, as estrogen falls.[2] The NHS calls weight-bearing and resistance exercise particularly important for bone density,[3] and the CDC says adults need muscle-strengthening activity at least 2 days a week.[4] A simple log of sessions and walks shows you, and your doctor, what you actually managed.

Strength, balance, tai chi and walking programs with a trainer are in the app. You can also log any workout or walk of your own, and steps can come in from Apple Health or Health Connect if you allow it.

One thing never to log and leave

Bleeding of any kind after menopause needs a doctor's check, even a small amount or only once.[1] If you note spotting in the app, book an appointment too.

Questions

When does postmenopause start?

From the day you reach menopause, which is 12 months after your last period. It lasts the rest of your life.

Is bleeding after menopause normal?

Any bleeding after menopause should be checked by a doctor, even if it is light or happens once.

Does the app still track periods?

No. After menopause the cycle tracker is off, and the Log menu leads with what you choose: sleep, workouts, walks or medication.

What does the app do for bone health?

It records strength sessions, walks and medication or vitamin D reminders. It doesn't measure or assess your bones; a scan and your doctor do that.
